MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – An improvised explosive device (IED) explosion killed at least seven civilians and leaving more than 10 others wounded on Monday night in Mogadishu’s Heliwaa district, eyewitnesses said.
The explosion targeted a mini bus and a tuktuk at the SOS junction, a busy street, striking during the bustling rush hour, according to eyewitnesses.
Somali Police, in their official statement, affirmed that the bomb was aimed at civilians, emphasizing that all casualties were innocent bystanders.
The toll stands at five, according to the police, and more than ten individuals injured, underscoring the severity of the attack’s impact on the local community.
Eyewitnesses recounted the chaos and devastation as the IED ripped through the crowded vehicles, highlighting the vulnerability of civilians navigating Mogadishu’s streets amidst heightened tensions.
While Somali military vehicles were reportedly nearby during the blast, authorities have yet to determine whether they were the intended target.
No group has claimed responsibility for the heinous attack, deepening the sense of uncertainty and insecurity gripping the city.
The attack comes at a time of heightened alert in Mogadishu in the past few days.
