MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – Less than 24 hours after the tragic bomb attack that claimed the life of Abdiwahab Osman Ahmed, an employee at Hormuud Telecom in Mogadishu’s Huriwa district, another devastating bomb struck the company.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion targeted and destroyed Hormuud Telecom’s fuel tanker in the Waxaracade area of the Huriwa district on Monday afternoon.
The fuel tanker, en route to supply Hormuud Telecom branches outside the city, succumbed to a massive explosion, engulfing the tanker in flames. As of now, details about casualties remain unknown.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, adding to the growing concerns surrounding Hormuud Telecom, Somalia’s largest telecom operator.
The company has been grappling with a disturbing wave of attacks since November, with over 10 reported incidents targeting employees, offices, telecom masts, and vehicles both within and outside Mogadishu. Tragically, several employees have lost their lives in these attacks.
Despite the escalating violence, the Mogadishu police have chosen to remain silent on these incidents.
In response, representatives from Hormuud Telecom, speaking anonymously, have pointed to multiple potential adversaries. These include the Al-Shabaab militant group and elements within the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
There are reports of a rift between Hormuud and NISA’s director, possibly stemming from business issues in the telecom sector.
The situation remains tense as the telecom company faces an increasingly precarious security environment.
