MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The courtroom in Mogadishu saw the commencement of proceedings on Wednesday in the case of Sayid Ali Moalim, who stands accused of burning his wife, Luul Abdiasis, to death.
Despite the tragic incident occurring on January 26th, Abdiasis’s body remains in the hospital mortuary as her family pursues justice.
The trial took a poignant turn as the children of the deceased, all from her previous marriage, were brought forth as witnesses to the heinous crime.
In light of this harrowing event, Kaab TV conducted interviews with the citizens of Mogadishu to gauge public opinion on the alarming rise of femicide cases in Somalia.
Responses were varied, reflecting the complex sentiments surrounding this pressing issue.
A spectrum of opinions has emerged regarding the case of the mother of six’s killer. While some advocate for amnesty for the perpetrator, others have raised concerns about his mental well-being. Conversely, there are those who adamantly demand full justice, viewing it as essential to deter future perpetrators of violence against women.
Meanwhile, as the court proceedings commenced yesterday, the family of Luul reiterated their plea for expedited justice. With Luul’s charred remains still in the mortuary, they emphasized the urgency of the situation, asserting that further delay is intolerable.
