Jowhar (KAAB TV )-Local officials report that the Shabelle River has recently flooded places near Jowhar in the Middle Shabelle district.

a report by Mohamed Bashir Qasim Daqare, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for the Hirshabelle Administration, floods have affected various places, including Baarey, Marerey, Kukaay, Mandera, Hawadley, and Bayahaw.

“Although the local administration is making a strong effort to prevent the river from flooding, the heavy rains that have fallen across the country have caused the river to overflow,” he said.

Two days before, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) issued early flood warnings, forecasting the impact of the last week of April. SoDMA emphasised the effects for districts such as Jowhar, Beledweyn, Buulaburde, Luuq, Dolow, and other major towns, particularly in areas without access to rivers, such as Bay, Bakool, Gedo, and Lower Jubba.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has also raised the alert. On Sunday, they anticipated that incoming spring rains and floods in 22 districts of Somalia will affect approximately 770,000 people.
