GAROWE (KAAB TV) – The Puntland Election Commission has announced the results of the local government elections held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in the three districts of Garowe, Godobjiiraan, and Dangorayo of the Nugaal region.
Nine political parties contested in the elections, where voters selected their local councilors. The Kaah Party, led by President Said Abdullahi Deni, is leading with 12,183 votes from the three districts, where over 37,000 citizens cast their votes on Tuesday.
This result secures Kaah 28 local councilor seats in the three districts, including the capital, Garowe.
The breakdown of votes and seats for other parties is as follows:
Kaah Party: 12,183 votes, 28 local council seats
Horseed Party: 6,744 votes, 17 seats
Sincad Party: 5,413 votes, 13 seats
Mideeye Party: 3,183 votes, 10 seats
Ifiye Party: 2,185 votes, 4 seats
Runcad Party: 2,137 votes, 4 seats
Mustaqbal Party: 1,550 votes, 2 seats
Shaqaalaha Party: 1,479 votes, 3 seats
A total of 81 seats were contested in this election, resulting in 71 men and 10 women winning positions in the local councils. This election marks a significant step towards inclusive and democratic governance in Puntland.
