Somali president escapes a huge suicide car bombing attack

|

MAXAAS, Somalia (KAAB TV) – An explosives-laden vehicle targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy in the central Somali town of Maxaas on Tuesday, officials have confirmed.

Security officials have confirmed that a suicide car bomb exploded as President Mohamud was returning from an address to local clan militia and government forces on the outskirts of Maxaas.

The heavily guarded town was left reeling, with authorities still assessing potential casualties amid chaos and sporadic gunfire in the aftermath of the explosion.

The method by which the vehicle penetrated the town’s security remains unclear.

President Mohamud had been in Maxaas since Sunday to rally clan militia in the region. However, reports indicate that members of the local clans opposed the president’s efforts due to unresolved grievances, setting conditions for their support in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, leaving many questions surrounding this dangerous incident.

The president’s office has yet to comment on the car bomb attack.
