A Somali soldier was killed in a mine explosion in the southwest.

|

BAYDHABO (KAAB TV) – At least three Somali government officers were killed and several injured when a remote-controlled mine explosion was discovered at the control centre in Silberd, Bakool area, South West Somalia.

Al-Shabaab claimed credit for the attack on last Tuesday, saying that its members killed three Somali government soldiers and injured others.

The local authorities and the national army command have yet to provide any information concerning the explosion.

This attack demonstrates the scope of the security issues confronting Somalia’s government and security forces in their efforts to combat armed organisations fighting in Somalia, particularly Daesh and Al-Shabaab.

It is worth noting that the “Al-Shabaab” movement has carried out multiple attacks against civilians and security personnel in the country with the goal of disrupting and propagating extremism.

Somalia’s government, which has the support of foreign partners, is working hard to strengthen its security forces and increase their capabilities in order to counter the threat posed by Al-Shabaab.
