African Union calls for calm amidst Ethiopia-Somalia tensions

|

ADDIS ABABA (KAAB TV) – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, closely monitors the escalating tension following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Ethiopia and Somalia’s region, Somaliland.

In response, Faki urges calm and mutual respect to de-escalate the simmering tension between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Federal Republic of Somalia.

He emphasizes the need for both countries to refrain from any actions that could unintentionally worsen relations between these neighboring Eastern African nations.

Faki underscores the imperative to respect the unity, territorial integrity, and full sovereignty of all African Union member states, including the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Furthermore, he highlights the importance of adhering to the norms of good neighborliness to foster peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

The AU diplomat calls for an immediate negotiation process between the two countries to address their differences in the most constructive, peaceful, and collaborative manner, with the aim of consolidating and deepening their cooperation for regional peace and security.

Faki reaffirms the African Union’s commitment to standing strongly with the involved parties, encouraging an African solution to this new tension in the region.
