MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – Al-Shabaab militants carried out an attack against a base of Burundian troops in Balcad, 30km north of Mogadishu, locals confirmed.
The Burundian ATMIS forces responded with heavy weapons following the attack; it is not yet clear if there were any casualties.
Locals in Balcad said they heard heavy bombardment just before dawn causing fear.
On the same day, militants also attacked a convoy of civilian trucks headed to Jowhar in the Middle Shabelle region.
According to residents, at least three trucks were destroyed in the attack, which occurred near Gololey, north of Balcad.
The Somali government and Hirshabelle authorities did not respond to inquiries for comment. However, the militants allege that the trucks were carrying military supplies.
These attacks in Middle Shabelle follow a deadly attack in Bardaale town in the Bay region of Southwest State on Saturday, where Al-Shabaab militants killed a military commander.
