Armed clash injures at least three in Garowe, Puntland

Garowe (Kaab TV) – Gunfire was reported in Garowe, Puntland’s administrative capital, resulting at least three injured, security sources said.

The shooting was said to have broken out between Puntland police officers which lasted for 15 minutes on Monday night.

A police source says at least one police officer was among those injured.

The wounded persons were transferred to the main hospital.

Puntland security officials are yet to speak on the armed clash in Garowe.

Amid a volatile political transition, Puntland is attempting to hold direct local elections based on one-person one-vote.

Local politicians have accused the regional president Said Abdullahi Deni of intending to extend his term for two more years after his mandate expires early 2024.

Clan elders have also vowed to oppose president Deni’s term extension.
