Incidents of banditry, killings, and robberies have surged within the city.
Roadblocks erected by rival militia groups have severely restricted residents’ movements.
There is also ongoing stalemate between the rival administrations of Hiiraan State and Hirshabelle, each vying for control over Beledweyne.
This power struggle has led to armed militia groups competing for control of the city’s airstrip.
But still the militant group Al-Shabaab continues to exert control over the outskirts of the city and perpetrate violence against the civilian population.
