GAROWE (Kaab TV) – This afternoon, Puntland clan elders convened in Garowe, issuing an urgent appeal to halt the deadly conflict between the Habar Jeclo/Isaaq and Dhulbahante clans in the Qorilugud area near Buhodle town.
The clashes began just last week between militias in the Qorilugud area and have since spread to nearby villages, forcing civilians to flee.
More than two dozen people have been killed as fighting continued throughout the week.
The conflict has erupted as Somaliland approaches its general election on November 13.
Somaliland authorities have accused the Somali government in Mogadishu of inciting the conflict, while SSC-Khaatumo state officials allege that Somaliland militias have attacked towns under their administration.
Islaan Ise Islaan Mohamed expressed sorrow over the ongoing violent clashes between these two neighboring clans from SSC-Khaatumo and Somaliland.
“The two clans are neighbors and always will be; they can never be separated. It is time to end the conflict and stop the bloodshed in Qorilugud,” the clan elder said.
Reports from the region indicate that clan militias are continuing to pour into the area with additional weaponry.
