NAIROBI, Kenya (KAAB TV) – Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former Kenyan presidential candidate, is serving a 7-year sentence in Illinois, United States, after being convicted of stalking and transmitting threats.
Dida, a 49-year-old former teacher known for his outspoken views, has been incarcerated at the Big Muddy Correctional Center since November 18, 2022.
The charges stem from incidents in Mclean County, Illinois, where Dida was found guilty of stalking and intimidating an unidentified victim.
The case, which was heard in 2021, resulted in a two-year sentence for stalking, in addition to his overall conviction.
The identity of the victim remains undisclosed.
Stalking, often characterized by obsessive harassment, involves repeated unwanted contact and behavior aimed at causing fear or distress.
Dida, who ran for the Kenyan presidency in 2013 and 2017, is expected to be released on April 3, 2029.
