Mogadishu awakens to mortar shelling: Fear grips neighborhoods – VIDEO

|

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – In the early hours of a Sunday morning, the tranquility of some Mogadishu neighborhoods was shattered as residents were abruptly jolted awake by the thunderous roar of mortar shelling.

The terrifying barrage left locals in a state of panic, with reports of casualties and a pervasive sense of fear gripping the affected areas.

The districts of Kaxda, Dharkeenley, and Wadajir bore witness to the horror, as scores of mortar shells rained down upon civilian houses, unleashing deafening explosions that shattered the serenity of the morning.

Residents shared photos of damaged residential buildings hit by the shelling.

Reports indicate that several mortar shells were aimed at the Turkish military base known as TurkSom, situated in the vicinity of Wadajir district. However, these indiscriminate projectiles mostly found their way into predominantly civilian residential areas and open land.

Residents residing in Wadajir and Dharkenley attested to the grim aftermath, confirming that at least two individuals had been injured by the shelling.

It is a disconcerting pattern that has become all too familiar in Mogadishu, as the extremist group Al Shabaab frequently claims responsibility for mortar attacks targeting the city. The brunt of these attacks tends to fall on innocent civilians who bear the brunt of the violence.

The local police in Mogadishu have not yet provided a statement regarding the attacks that unfolded this morning.

These troubling events follow closely on the heels of a devastating suicide explosion near an internally displaced camp in close proximity to the Parliament building, an incident that claimed the lives of 11 people just on Friday.
