Puntland Declares Bosaso Airport Safe Amid Flight Cancellations and Security Concerns

|

GAROOWE (KAAB TV) – The Puntland Ministry of Aviation has informed airlines that Bosaso Airport is safe and that commercial flights can operate.

This statement follows the Federal Government of Somalia’s suspension of commercial flights to Bosaso Airport, citing security concerns, a decision strongly opposed by Puntland.

On Sunday, two airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Daallo Airlines, canceled their scheduled flights, according to local officials in Bosaso.

A few days earlier, the Puntland Security Force (PSF), a U.S-trained forces under the command of renegade general Asad Osman Diyano issued a statement advising against using Bosaso Airport, accusing the Puntland administration of denying the forces access to the airport.

The PSF and the Puntland forces have clashed previously in Bosaso.

However, Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mahmoud Caidid Dirir, denied the allegations, stating that the airport is open to everyone and is not a military zone.
