MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The Somalia military court has issued a warning against the use of live bullets during Independence Day celebrations, a common occurrence that sometimes results in civilian deaths and injuries in Mogadishu.
The ban was announced by Buulo Kamey, a prosecutor at the military court.
“At midnight tonight, it will be July 1, our national Independence Day. We, therefore, ban the use of live bullets, and we have arrested some individuals whom you have seen today. They are nine in number and have been transferred to the central prison,” Kamey added.
He said there have been recurrent incidents where live bullets used for celebrations have caused casualties.
Tomorrow, July 1, is Somalia’s Independence Day, and celebrations are expected to take place in Mogadishu.
