Somaliland Electoral Commission Receives Ballot Papers as Election Campaigns Officially Begin

|

HARGEISA (KAAB TV) – The Somaliland Electoral Commission announced today that it has received the ballot papers for the upcoming elections.

During a ceremony held at Egal International Airport in Hargeisa, a plane carrying the ballot papers, printed in the UK, landed successfully.

The Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC), alongside the Political Parties and Associations Taskforce, was present to oversee the arrival of the shipment.

This significant development marks the official start of election activities and the launch of the election campaign for political parties and organizations across Somaliland.

The election campaign kicked off today and will run for 22 days, concluding on November 10. The Barwaaqo political organization was the first to hold its rally, with supporters gathering in various designated venues across Somaliland.

New political organizations have been allocated only two days each to conduct their rallies. For instance, Barwaaqo, after today, has one remaining day for its campaign, scheduled for October 19.

Meanwhile, the three main political parties—Waddani, Kulmiye, and UCID—who are competing in both the presidential and organizational elections, have each been given three days for their respective rallies.

The successful start of the Somaliland presidential election campaign is seen as a positive development following a two-year delay caused by disputes between opposition and ruling parties.
