Southwest State President Expresses Frustration Over Federal Neglect During Prime Minister’s Visit

|

Baidoa (KAAB TV) — In a recent statement, Southwest State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen conveyed deep frustrations to Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre during his visit to Baidoa.

Speaking during an event in Baidoa on Thursday night, President Laftagareen criticized the federal government’s approach, alleging that the people of Southwest Somalia are weary of “fake nationalism” while their resources and benefits have been monopolized by select groups in Mogadishu.

Laftagareen highlighted that various sectors within Southwest State had shared their grievances with the Prime Minister, reflecting longstanding concerns about marginalization since 1960.

The President emphasized that the people of Southwest Somalia are no longer willing to accept hollow nationalism that fails to address their real needs.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Baidoa follows Laftagareen’s recent declaration of the region’s intent to determine its own future and his expressed support for Ethiopian soldiers stationed in Southwest Somalia, who are providing security to local populations.

This visit underscores the growing tensions between regional leaders and the federal government.
