BELEDHAWO (KAAB TV) – Tensions have escalated in the border town of Beledhawo, situated on the Kenyan-Somali border, following two recent violent incidents.
In the first, gunmen critically injured two young men after a dispute over a football field a week ago resulting one group to use violence.
The incident was followed by a bombing attack, further unsettling the town’s residents.
In response, Beledhawo District Commissioner Abdiasis Hared has urged the community to remain calm and work toward peaceful coexistence.
He emphasized the need for collaboration to ensure stability and security in the area.
“The youth in Beledhawo are facing unemployment. We need to attract investors and NGOs to come here. We need the federal government and the Jubaland state to establish a presence here. But only the people of Beledhawo can make that happen,” Hared said, calling on locals to contribute to safeguarding the town’s future by ensuring peace and stability.
The commissioner’s plea comes at a critical time, as the town grapples with insecurity and economic challenges, seeking support from both the federal government and regional authorities.
