The Banadir Regional Court convicted Somali government officials of corruption.

The Banadir regional court today delivered its ruling in the corruption case against Somali government officials who were not present during the proceedings.

Mohamed Aden Koofi and Abd Qadir Ali Cilmi (Abdul), former Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency directors, were acquitted by the court.

Also, the Banadir Regional Court acquitted Muhuddin Hassan Jurus (Saabey), the former Director of Eastern Customs who was also missing from the nation after fleeing when he was wanted for arrest.

After being found guilty of some of the charges charged, the Banadir regional court sentenced other officials accused of corruption outside the country to varying prison terms.

The convicted officers are:

  1. Mohammed Ibrahim Ahmed, who is missing, was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

    2- Abdir Rahman Mohamed Ali Adle served four years in prison and is no longer eligible to hold public office.

    Salah Ali Mohamud, Chairman of the Banadir Regional Court, revealed the court’s ruling today and begged former officials who had been accused by the Somali Prosecutor’s Office.
