Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – This week, Alison Blackburne, the UK Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa and Red Sea, visited Mogadishu for a series of high-level meetings with Somali officials and international partners.

Her visit comes at a pivotal moment as Somalia navigates increased regional tensions and ongoing discussions about the post-ATMIS security transition.

During her trip, Blackburne met with key figures including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Foreign Minister Ahmed Fiqi.

Discussions centered on Somalia’s upcoming membership in the UN Security Council and the future of the UN political mission in Somalia. The envoy also reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the UK and Somalia.

In her meetings, Blackburne emphasized the importance of dialogue and compromise for Somalia to build on its recent progress in security and development.

She reiterated the UK’s respect for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and encouraged efforts to resolve tensions with Ethiopia.

“My visit to Somalia comes at a crucial time for the country and the wider region, as Somalia looks forward to taking up a seat at the United Nations Security Council and discussions continue about the post-ATMIS security transition,” stated Blackburne.

“Somalia is a key partner for the UK, and we are committed to securing a safe, stable, and secure future for all Somalis. I look forward to visiting again in the near future,” she added.
