MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The United Nations has recently sounded an alarm, declaring that a staggering 6.9 million people in Somalia require critical humanitarian and protection aid.
“In addition to climatic shocks, conflict and insecurity, widespread poverty and disease outbreaks will continue to drive humanitarian needs this year,” stated Mr. George Conway, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Resident, and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia.
Humanitarian and development partners are saying they need to strengthen complementarity and work towards collective outcomes that will help reduce needs, risks, and vulnerabilities, increase resilience, and ensure that future shocks do not lead to catastrophe.
Meanwhile, in the capital city of Mogadishu, internally displaced persons (IDPs) confront dire circumstances on a daily basis, with hunger and extreme living conditions becoming the norm.
Particularly vulnerable are women with disabilities, who face additional hardships in displacement camps.
Kaab TV recently interviewed Maryan Mohamud Halane, an IDP woman living with disability on the outskirts of Mogadishu, shedding light on the plight of a disabled woman and her children.
Their story underscores the urgent need for targeted assistance and support for the most vulnerable populations in Somalia.
