Puntland authorities reportedly ‘deport’ journalist Jamal Mohamed Osman

|

GAROWE (KAAB TV) – Freelance Journalist Jamal Mohamed Osman, known for his coverage of conflict and terrorism, was blocked by Puntland authorities after being detained at Garowe Airport upon his arrival on Sunday.

Working for UK’s Channel 4 News, Osman was stopped and held after his flight from Ethiopia landed, according to local security sources.

He remained in detention overnight on Sunday and was subsequently put on a flight back to Addis Ababa on Monday, as confirmed by sources.

This incident follows a previous deportation in December 2022 when Mogadishu authorities held Osman at Mogadishu airport before deporting him back to the UK.

The action was taken in response to Channel 4’s documentary, which included interviews with Al-Shabaab members, causing displeasure among Mogadishu authorities.

The Puntland authorities have not yet commented publicly on the matter.
