GALKAYO (KAAB TV) – Luul Abdiasis, detained for over a year in Galmudug and Puntland facilities in Galkayo town, has finally spoken out in front of a Puntland court, revealing the systematic torture she endured.
She appeared before a court in Puntland this week for the first time since her detention.
With tears in her eyes, Luul recounted being forcibly removed from her cell at midnight, stripped naked, and subjected to beatings and torture.
She recalls, “During my time in Galmudug and later when I was transferred to Sinay [Puntland C.I.D detention in Galkayo], they would take me out of the cell at night, strip me naked, and douse me with water. This would continue until morning. They recorded videos of me and coerced me into confessing. I am not affiliated with Al-Shabaab, but due to the pain I endured, I would say ‘yes’ to whatever they asked. Even now, I am not mentally well.”
Her detention stemmed from accusations by the Somali national intelligence agency (NISA) agents, who claimed she rented her house to an unknown man.
During the court proceedings, a police officer confirmed that Luul remains traumatized and struggles to sleep at night.
The alleged video clip recorded by NISA media during Luul’s detention in Galmudug, where she was coerced into confessing, has been discredited as Puntland lawyers say the do not trust NISA at all and any recording made by NISA remain inadmissible.
