Somalia’s Cabinet Re-Appoints General Odowa Rage as Army Chief

|

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – On Sunday night, Somalia’s Cabinet of Ministers re-appointed General Odowa Yusuf Rage as the Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), the office of the prime minister announced.

In a statement, the prime minister’s office indicated that Odowa’s reappointment is aimed at intensifying Somalia’s offensive against al-Shabaab.

“The Council of Ministers of the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia, which held an emergency meeting tonight, approved the proposal of the Ministry of Defense for the appointment of the Commander of the Somali National Army, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, to speed up the defense of the country and the elimination of Khawarij groups,” the statement read.

The reappointment of General Odowa comes at a time of rising political tension and instability across Somalia.

Having been out of active military service for two years, his return has prompted questions regarding the objectives and timing behind his reappointment.

Meanwhile, relations between Somalia’s federal government and Jubaland have further deteriorated, with Jubaland recently announcing a formal break in ties.

Reports from Kismayo indicate heightened security measures and a potential military buildup, suggesting a rapidly shifting security environment in the region.
