BOSASO (KAAB TV) – In Bosaso, the economic hub of Puntland, business activity has returned to full swing following the end of the summer migration break.
The city, which sees a significant portion of its population temporarily relocate to cooler regions during the hot months, is now bustling with life as residents return.
During the summer break, known locally as “xagaa baxa,” nearly 60% of Bosaso’s population leaves for nearby towns such as Carmo, Qardho, and Waaciye to escape the extreme heat.
This seasonal migration, spanning from May to September, leads to a slowdown in commercial activity as both businesses and schools largely shut down.
With the population returning in September, the city’s markets, ports, and services are now thriving once again, marking a renewed period of economic growth.
Bosaso’s strategic location as a trade center for Puntland and other regions of Somalia ensures that the end of the summer break always signals a major revival in business operations.
