DAR ES SALAAM (KAAB TV) – Tanzania promises to keep assisting Somalia in a variety of areas, including security and defence, in order to ensure long-term peace in the new East African member state.

President Samia Suluxu Hassan made the vow after meeting her Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in the President’s House in Dar es Salaam.

Safia Suluxu Hassan, a Tanzanian native, said reporters that her government is ready to help Somalis with defence and other training, including as health and education.

In addition to security, Dr. Samia stated that the two countries are working to increase collaboration in health and education.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the President of Somalia, appreciated the Tanzanian government for its assistance during difficult times.

He said the arms embargo on Somalia has been lifted since the country has achieved significant progress in reducing its debt.

Mohamud’s visit to Tanzania is his first in the country and the first since Somalia joined the EAC.

He was one of seven leaders that attended the organization’s 60th anniversary ceremony in Dar es Salaam.
