BOSASO (KAAB TV) More information is being released about the ongoing battle between Al-Shabaab and Daesh in the Galgala mountains of Puntland’s Bari region.
The combat, which lasted many hours, involved the employment of numerous types of weapons and could be heard from a long distance.
Both Al-Shabaab and Daesh have sustained six losses, including deaths and injuries. However, the official number of dead and wounded as a result of the ongoing conflict remains unknown, and true information from the region is impossible to obtain.
The Galgala mountains are strategically significant to both parties since they provide as a bastion from which to launch attacks as well as an operational base. The dispute between these two factions has exacerbated the already complex situation in the region.
Al-Shabaab and Daesh are both at conflict with the Puntland administration, which has thus far failed to remove them from the Galgala mountains. The administration’s attempts to end the existence of these local groups have been met with opposition, resulting in a protracted and tense situation.
The recent wars have exacerbated tensions in Puntland’s eastern sector, and both sides are reportedly making movements. The situation remains unstable, with the prospect of bloodshed.
