GAROWE (KAAB TV) – The Puntland State of Somalia has accused Somalia’s Federal Government of deliberately inciting instability in its territories, specifically in the Sanaag region.
Violence has recently erupted in Sanaag between clan militias, though the clan elders of the Isaq and Dhulbahante intervened. Meanwhile, pro-Makhir state activists are reported to have held meetings in Mogadishu campaigning for a separate regional administration.
Puntland’s Deputy President, Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, made the allegations during a public address, claiming that the Federal Government is financing individuals to create unrest in areas under Puntland’s control.
“We are aware that the Federal Government has provided funds to individuals to disrupt the stability of the Sanaag region,” Lugatoor told local media.
He said Puntland’s security forces have been given the mandate to take action against those orchestrating the unrest.
Lugatoor went further, accusing the Federal Government of trying to stir chaos in other federal member states in a bid to interfere in their internal affairs and seize control.
The Puntland’s Deputy President urged other member states to remain cautious and ensure the full implementation of the federal constitution, which governs relations between Somalia’s central government and regional administrations.
These accusations threaten to further strain the already fragile relationship between Puntland and the Federal Government, with long-standing disputes over political autonomy and resource management still unresolved.
