MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – Fighting has once again erupted between Somaliland and the pro-Somalia SSC-Khatumo forces, entering a new and complex phase that raises concerns over the escalating violence.
The Wednesday gun battle, centered around Buq Dharkeyn near the Oog area between the Sool and Togdheer regions, claimed the lives of at least six individuals, marking a grim continuation of the ongoing conflict.
Tensions between the two factions have been simmering since the end of August when SSC-Khatumo forces, led by the Dhulbahante, gained control of the area, dealing a blow to Somaliland forces.

The recent surge in clan-based killings has added fuel to the fire, with Isaq militia, aligned with the Somaliland army, reportedly targeting and killing two Dhulbahante villagers, triggering the Wednesday fighting.
In the aftermath of the conflict, the SSC-Khatumo Administration released a statement accusing Somaliland’s president of violating a ceasefire that had been in place.
They claimed that President Muse Biixi’s administration had not only killed two pastoralists but also launched a heinous attack spanning from Buqdharkayn to Yayle, a distance of 8 kilometers.
The statement indicated casualties among herdsmen, with some killed and others injured.
SSC-Khatumo forces declared the capture of a high-ranking Somaliland military commander, Ibrahim Tiyote, during the intense battle at Buq Dharkeyn.
The captured commander, responsible for logistics, sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Footage obtained from the Wednesday fighting revealed confiscated military vehicles purportedly belonging to Somaliland forces.
Adding to the complexity, fighting resumed on Thursday with heavy armed forces joining both sides.
The introduction of significant military firepower raises the stakes, further jeopardizing the lives of civilians caught in the crossfire.
Reports suggest that Somaliland military officers are mobilizing militia from clans east of Burco, while Dhulbahante militia groups are responding in kind.
