Somaliland Bans Clan-Based Meetings Amid Rising Security Concerns

|

HARGEISA (Kaab TV) – The Somaliland government has announced a sweeping ban on clan-based meetings in hotels and other public venues as part of a broader strategy to enhance national security and foster social harmony.

The directives, unveiled by Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin during a high-level security meeting, aim to curb incitement, hate speech, and activities that threaten public order.

Effective immediately, hotels and public spaces are prohibited from hosting clan-based gatherings.

“Hotels found violating this directive will face strict legal action,” Kahin stated during a press briefing in Hargeisa.

He further urged hotel owners to remain vigilant and avoid facilitating such events.

The government also warned that individuals inciting unrest or engaging in activities undermining Somaliland’s national security will be prosecuted under the law.

Authorities pledged to crack down on hate speech and defamatory rhetoric that fosters division and hostility within the community.

In addition, the media has been cautioned against broadcasting inflammatory content that could harm social cohesion or undermine Somaliland’s sovereignty.

The measures include strengthening security across the country, with a particular focus on Ceerigaabo, the capital of Sanaag Region.

The city has witnessed escalating tensions between local clans, with recent clashes claiming at least five lives.

To further stabilize the situation, the government plans to enhance security at border areas and checkpoints to safeguard national stability.

Authorities have called on citizens, media outlets, and business owners to cooperate with these initiatives, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to preserve peace and unity in Somaliland.
